3B vs 3C Hair: Corkscrew Tightness and Shrinkage
3C sits at the edge of Type 3 before coily Type 4. It brings more shrinkage, density, and curl packing than 3B.
Both types form visible spirals, but 3C coils are smaller in diameter and often appear in very dense clusters. What reads as “big hair” on 3B can become even fuller on 3C with less length hanging down once dry.
Detangling for 3C should almost always happen on soaking wet hair with plenty of slip from conditioner. Rushing this step leads to breakage and uneven curl clumps.
Styling gels that work for 3B may feel too light for 3C; custard or thicker gels with humectants balanced for your climate are common upgrades.
If you are weighing these two codes, compare your strand behavior after a wash-and-go: uniform tight spirals with major shrinkage lean 3C; slightly looser ringlets with moderate shrinkage lean 3B.
